I had a good pregnancy with a slight worry toward the end due to Polyhydramnios - however - this proved to be of no concern, as Lily was born very very healthy. She was born at the exact same gestation as her older sister, 37weeks and 2 days.
I trialled a labour, not knowing whether I would end up with another ceasarian section as I had to have with Savanna. I am proud that I did not have any drugs up until I was 9cm dialated. This was 4 hours from the time my waters broke. At 9cm I had an epidural put in to relieve the excruciating pain (!) and also as a back up just in case I needed to have a c-section. Well after a 3 hour sleep and 1 cm later the Doctor found that I had gone to 10cm, and back down to 9. There was a lip on the cervix that wouldnt allow the baby's head to descend. He is pretty sure this is what would have happened with Savanna.
So off to theatre it was and I was glad that I had at least made the effort, so I didn't feel any dissapointment with the labour, like I had failed or anything. Shan had a shower and put his cool blue uniform on and off we went.
It took about 5 minutes before Lily was born, at 4.29am, the doctor said "Does Dad want to see his baby?" and Shan stood up and there she was. Covered in gunk and crying her head off. It was fantastic. I'm sure I would have cried alot if I wasn't shaking so much from the epidural. I had a litle cuddle then she was taken and Shan went with her, I was sewn up and then went into recovery for about 45 mins.
I was then taken into my ward and soon enough Shan , Lily and the midwife Noreen came in. Shan and I were so happy. I fed her and she took to it perfectly. Shan stayed for a little bit, then went home to get some sleep. It was now 7am.
I stayed in hospital for 4 days and returned home to life with 2 children!
Lily was born 7lb and 49.5cm in length.
